One learning platform for your next step in the Netherlands.

Start with the route that applies to you.

Your official requirement depends on your personal situation, the law that applies to you and the plan agreed with your municipality. KlaarNL helps you prepare; DUO and your PIP tell you which exams you need.

Build the foundation

Everyday words, short conversations and essential reading. A1 is used in the Z-route and for the basic civic integration exam abroad.

Prepare for the inburgering exam

Practice the four language skills and KNM in the format used for A2. This level applies to several routes under the older law and some adjusted B1 pathways.

Learn for work, study and participation

Train for longer texts and conversations, clearer writing and the State Exam NT2 Programme I skills used by many learners under the 2021 system.

Not sure? Check your PIP or Mijn Inburgering before choosing an exam level.

Which level do I need?

Check your PIP or Mijn Inburgering. Your required level and exams depend on your personal situation and whether the 2013 or 2021 civic integration law applies to you.

Is A1 an inburgering exam level?

A1 is used for the basic civic integration exam abroad and as the language level in the self-reliance Z-route. Many learners also use A1 as the foundation before A2 or B1.

Can I prepare on my phone?

Yes. KlaarNL is designed for phone, tablet and computer, so short practice sessions can fit around work, family and appointments.

Does KlaarNL replace DUO or my municipality?

No. KlaarNL is an independent learning platform. DUO, your municipality and your PIP remain the official sources for the exams and route that apply to you.
